Nice story :) I had a clause in my first contract that I had to work for a company at least for 6 months or I will have to reimburse all H1B-related expenses. Well, I left the company and when the company's president called me, just told him to get lost. Never heard from him again. Looking back, I should've sued the company because it did not pay me full salary for the first month while I was on the "bench" (searching for a contract). Well, I am just too lazy :)

FYI: USCIS does not charge for Visa Lottery... It's FREE.
Well again...if they allow to file 485, most of those folks will
file EAD and Parole too.. more money and more money :D
Its the same reason they wont discontinue Green Card lottery.
I think last time about 5mil people participated with $100 entry fee.
So its $500 Mil dollars..thats half a billion.....Nobody would kill the
goose who lays golden eggs... :D :D :D :D

I have prior bitter experience in taking employer to court - and my take is, it is not worth it. Here is my story:
At one point, my employer owed me over 20k+ in backwages and unpaid overtime. I threatened him to going to court and he paid about 5k.
I then submitted a formal complaint to virginia department of labor, who sent it to me back stating 'since a formal employment agreement is *in place*, they are will not interfere' and directed me to go to the courts. Two months passed.
I then filed a case against my employer in the small claims court in California, where my employer resides. Small claims courts can adjudicate upto 5k. They took my case and asked me to be physically present in the court. Visiting CA, salary loss, hotel etc, would add upto 1k. Also, if the employer does not show up, I need to file another case in the normal court for attaching his property. Long shot and therefore withdrew the case.
I then contacted an attorney; surprisingly most of the attorneys did not want to take up my case( unless I have a company). Finally, one guy offered to take up the case, but insisted on paying him 4k upfront as retention fees and $200/hr rate. With no certainity of making my employer pay, I did not pursue.

I cannot believe that out of the thousands who are affected, only 155 so far have taken a step to scream for help by writing this letter. Guys, C'mon, we can do better than that.

The issue gets dumped in the back burner and may or may not get resolved. On the other hand, if all of a sudden, several 100 users start complaining about an issue, we roll up our sleeves and start working on a fix right away. I should say, this applies not just to IT, but every other area. Unless, you make them aware of the problem, there is going to be NO resolution.

As we all know, the Housing crisis in US is getting worse day by day, with the inventory of houses available for sale increasing, and buyers not willing/able to buy those houses.
Giving speedy Green Cards to July Visa bulletin cases will ease the Housing Crisis in US.
Most of the people affected by the July Visa bulletin are highly skilled people who have the capacity to buy houses, but are not investing in houses, since their future in US is not secure until they get Green Cards.
Instead they end up investing in real estate in Bangalore/Hyderabad etc, thereby helping in housing boom in those places.
If Congress passes a law to give speedy Green Cards to these highly skilled people ASAP; these highly skilled people, who have good jobs and capacity to buy houses inspite of the difficult situation regarding getting loans etc, will help US tide over the current difficult housing situation.
This is something for the US law makers to ponder.

According to LC, my labor got approved on Aug 9th, but we received actual paper on Sep 9th .. So lost the chance to FILE 485
DOL took more than a month TO send papers ..
There is no point in blaming IV . They are the BEST ..
It is US Govt agencies who are lazy and ineptitude.
US did not get Civil Rights in one year .. it took decades of fight ...
IV is fighting for every one ..
